Uses of Rozerem
Rozerem
is indicated for the treatment of insomnia characterized by difficulty with
sleep onset.
Rozerem Precautions
Rozerem
should not be used by patients with severe hepatic impairment, or in
patients in combination with fluvoxamine. Rozerem has not been studied in
subjects with severe sleep apnea or severe COPD and is not recommended for
use in those populations. Patients should be advised to exercise caution if
they consume alcohol in combination with Rozerem. Rozerem has been
associated with decreased testosterone levels and increased prolactin
levels. As a result, healthcare professionals should be mindful of any
unexplained symptoms possibly associated with such changes in these hormone
levels. Rozerem has not been studied in children or adolescents, and the
effects in these populations are unknown.
Rozerem Directions
Rozerem
should be taken within 30 minutes before going to bed and activities should
be confined to those necessary to prepare for bed. Rozerem should not be
taken with or immediately after a high-fat meal. Engaging in hazardous
activities that require concentration (such as operating a motor vehicle or
heavy machinery) after taking Rozerem should be avoided.
The most common adverse
events seen with Rozerem that had greater than 2% incidence difference from
placebo were somnolence, dizziness, and fatigue.
Rozerem should not be used in combination with fluvoxamine.
Rozerem For Insomnia
October 7, 2006
So many million Americans have a hard time falling
asleep at night, or staying asleep. When happens more than once a week, it
begins to affect how you function during your daily activities, and this
could mean that you, among the estimated 60 million other Americans, have
chronic insomnia. Chronic insomnia is when an individual has a hard time
falling asleep, or staying asleep for more than a month at a time. Insomnia
should not be ignored because it can begin to cause other health problems,
such as depression, decreased overall health, impaired memory, increased
risk for accidents, and many other symptoms that could affect how you live
your life.
Rozerem is a
prescription sleep aid that may provide
you with the relief you need to fall asleep and stay asleep. Rozerem is a
non-narcotic medication that helps induce sleep by targeting two melatonin
receptors in the brain. These receptors regulate circadian rhythms, which
control the sleep-wake cycle.
Rozerem is one of the sleep aid medications that can
be taken as part of a long-term medication therapy. If taking Rozerem does
not solve your insomnia problem within a reasonable amount of time, or your
problem worsens, or you experience behavioral or cognitive abnormalities,
you should discontinue using Rozerem and should see a doctor to see if other
medical disorders are present.
The most common side-effects associated with the use
of Rozerem are drowsiness, fatigue and dizziness. Rozerem should not be
taken after a high-fat meal. Rozerem should be taken 30 minutes prior to
bedtime. Activities should be limited to bedtime preparation during this
period. You should not engage in activities that require concentration,
such as operating a motor vehicle, while taking Rozerem.
As always, be sure to consult a medical professional
before taking any prescription medication, and tell your doctor if you are
currently taking any medications to avoid any complications while you are
taking prescription Rozerem.
