Ortho Tri-Cyclen is an oral contraceptive. It is a combination of estrogen and progestin which is used to prevent pregnancy. This drug is also used to regulate menstrual cycles. It is also used for the treatment of menopausal problems. Ortho Tri-cyclen has low dose of hormones which helps decrease the hormones which causes acne. The use of this drug prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs. Likewise, it also prevents the sperm to enter the cervix by thickening the cervical mucous. Aside from it prevents you from getting pregnant; it also lessens the menstrual cramps and makes your periods lighter.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Directions
Ortho Tri-Cyclen comes with an information leaflet. To use this contraceptive, follow the directions found in this leaflet or follow the directions as advised by your doctor. When you have questions as to the directions, discuss it with your doctor. It is best if you could take Ortho Tri-cyclen at the same time everyday and should not be more than 24 hours apart. When you missed a dose, take it immediately as soon as you remember then go back to your regular schedule. However, if you miss doses more frequently, it is best to discuss the matter with your doctor so proper advice shall be given to you.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Side Effects
Known side effects of Ortho Tri-cyclen include nausea, bleeding between menstrual periods, breast tenderness, and weight change. More side effects such as persistent or recurrent vaginal bleeding, missed menstrual period, dizziness or loss of consciousness, swelling of fingers or ankles, headache or when you find trouble when wearing your contact lenses should be informed to your doctor immediately. More serious side effects include sharp chest pains, shortness of breath, yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe headaches or leg pains, change in your vision, numbness in the arms and legs or severe stomach pains. When any of these occurs, tell your doctor right away.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Precautions
When you are under Ortho Tri-cyclen medication, smoking may increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, blood clotting, high blood pressure or other heart problems. In cases of diarrhea or vomiting, Ortho Tri-cyclen may not be effective. Also, when you are taking antibiotics or anti convulsants, the effectiveness of Ortho Tri-0cyclen maybe greatly reduced. To prevent getting pregnant, additional forms of birth control must be used until you have your next menstrual cycle.
Before undergoing medical or dental treatments and surgery, you must disclose that you are using this drug. Before taking other medicines, inform your doctor so he may give proper advice. Ortho Tri-cyclen can cause dark skin patches on your face and exposure to the sun may cause these patches to become darker. Sexually transmitted diseases cannot be prevented by using Ortho Tri-cyclen.
Drug Interactions with Ortho Tri-Cyclen
When you are taking nitrate medications, nitroprusside, cimetidine, erythromycin, or high blood pressure medicines, you must inform your doctor before taking Ortho Tri-cyclen to avoid interactions of the drugs.
Missed Dose of Ortho Tri-Cyclen
When you miss a dose of the drug, do not double the next dose. Just skip the missed dose and go back to the regular schedule of your dose.

Do not share this medication with others. Always keep out of the reach of children. Make sure to obtain refills before you run out of the medication if you use Ortho Tri-Cyclen for extended periods of time.
