Uses of Elidel
Elidel is used as a treatment for patients who have mild to moderate cases of eczema.
Elidel Directions
Eczema symptoms often vary with time. It is important for people suffering from eczema to treat their skin at the first sign of a flare up, rather than waiting on a major outbreak to occur. Elidel should be applied in a thin layer twice each day. Elidel should cover the effected area and should be used until the rash goes away. If the rash comes back, you may use Elidel again as your doctor directs. If eczema symptoms persist beyond six weeks or become worse while using Elidel, see a doctor immediately.
Elidel Side Effects
The most frequent side effect associated with the use of Elidel is a mild burning or warm feeling upon application. This is typically mild and temporary. Other side effects might include headache, sore throat, cough, stuffy nose or, in rare cases, a viral type skin infection. It is important to avoid sun exposure while using Elidel.
Elidel Precautions
Always avoid exposure to direct sunlight or tanning beds while using Elidel. If you must be outside after using Elidel, wear loose clothing that allows your skin to breathe. Keep the affected skin covered while in direct sunlight. Discuss sun exposure with your doctor before applying Elidel. If you are pregnant or breast feeding, use Elidel only if your doctor recommends it. Fetal side effects are unknown. There is no research to show whether Elidel is excreted through breast milk, so exercise caution. If you suffer from Netherton's Sydrome, talk to your doctor before using Elidel. Do not apply Elidel to areas of your skin that are currently infected from viruses such as chicken pox or herpes.
Drug Interactions with Elidel
Discuss all medications you are currently using with your doctor before using Elidel. Make sure you tell your doctor about any topical medications you use on a regular basis. Do not begin using Elidel or discontinue use without consulting a physician.
Elidel Notes
Elidel should not be shared with others. Only patients under physician supervision should use Elidel.
