Doxycycline

Doxycycline is an antiobiotic that is considered broad-spectrum, meaning it can treat a variety of conditions including fevers or illnesses caused by ticks, fleas, or lice. Doxycycline is also used to treat some sexually transmitted diseases, infections of the urinary tract, or inhalation anthrax.

Doxycycline Directions
Take Doxycyclin with a full glass of water. You may take this medication with food if stomach upset occurs. Do not chew or crush Doxycyclin tablets, but swallow whole.
Doxycycline Side Effects
Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about side effects. Common side effects include: chest pain, swelling, problems swallowing, bulging of the forehead in babies, diarrhea, teeth discoloration in babies and children, swelling of the tongue, appetite changes, stomach upset, rash, itching of the rectum and genitals, severe allergic reactions such as hives and swelling, sun sensitivity, and vomiting.
Doxycycline Precautions
Some people develop secondary infections while taking Doxycycline. Some patients will experience overgrowth of colon bacteria which can cause diarrhea ranging from mild to life threatening. If you begin having diarrhea, call your doctor. Doxycyclin may cause patients to be more sensitive than usual to sun exposure. Tell your doctor if you develop a rash while using Doxycycline. Tell your doctor about any birth control pills you are using before starting this medication. Doxycycline may lower the effects of birth control containing estrogen. Secondary forms of contraception may be required to prevent pregnancy.
