Diflucan

diflucan

Diflucan is a medication used to treat yeast infections. It is an antifungal agent.

Uses of Diflucan

Diflucan is an antifungal medication used for treating yeast infections.

Diflucan Directions

Diflucan works best when taken at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day. It is important that you take Diflucan as your physician orders in order for it to effectively treat yeast infections. Different conditions require various uses of this medication. Typically, Diflucan is taken once each day. In some cases, patients may need to take Diflucan for one week each month until symptoms are gone. Patients should continue taking Diflucan as directed by their doctors even if the symptoms disappear before the end of the dosage. If you stop taking Diflucan too soon, the yeast may grow back resulting in a reoccurrence of yeast-related symptoms.

Diflucan Side Effects

Diflucan may cause mild side effects in some people, including upset stomach, appetite loss, diarrhea, altered taste, headache, or lightheadedness. These symptoms typically are temporary and subside after a few days. If symptoms persist or become bothersome, contact your doctor. Seek immediate medical attention if an allergic reaction to Diflucan is suspected. Allergic reactions are rare, but symptoms could include hives, rash, swelling, dizziness, respiratory distress, or itching.

Diflucan Precautions

Talk to your doctor about your complete medical history before starting Diflucan. It is important to tell your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney disease. You should also tell the doctor and pharmacist about any drug allergies. Diflucan should only be used during pregnancy if it is clearly needed. Pregnant women should weigh risks and benefits with their physicians. Diflucan is excreted in breast milk and should not be used by nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions

Talk to your doctor about all medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Diflucan. This is especially important if you are taking astemizole, cisapride, cimetidine, oral contraceptives, cyclosporine, oral antidiabetic drugs, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampin, rifabutin, certain benzodiazepines (e.g., alprazolam, triazolam), tacrolimus, terfenadine, theophylline, warfarin, zidovudine. Never stop or start this medication without first consulting a doctor.

Missed Dose of Diflucan

When you miss a scheduled dose of Diflucan, take it as soon as your remember. If it is time for your next dose, take only the normal dosage. Never double the dosage to compensate for a missed dose.

Diflucan Storage

Diflucan should be stored at room temperate away from sunlight. Store in a dry place. Diflucan should not be stored in the bathroom.
