Uses of Cipro
Cipro is prescribed to adults with some bacterial infections. It is also used for treatment of anthrax.
Cipro Directions
Individual Cipro dosages vary according to many factors. Your doctor will provide you with specific dosage directions. The pharmacy will also provide a leaflet with information on Cipro and dosage instructions. Always take Cipro as directed. You may take Cipro with food if stomach upset occurs.
Most doctors recommend taking Cipro around two hours after eating. Be sure to drink a lot of liquid while taking Cipro. Do not take certain antacids within six hours before or two hours after taking Cipro. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about any antacids you take on a regular basis. Do not take Cipro with yogurt or milk alone. You may include Calcium in a meal before taking Cipro. Avoid caffeine while taking this medication. Stop using Cipro and talk to your doctor if you have tendon pain or swelling. You should also consult your doctor if you experience diarrhea. Be cautious when driving or operating machinery while taking Cipro, as it may cause dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid sun exposure while using Cipro. Follow doctor's instructions and maintain all appointments with your healthcare provider while taking Cipro. Do not begin taking any other prescription or over the counter medications without first consulting your doctor.
Cipro Side Effects
Side effects related to Cipro are usually mild and temporary. Talk to your doctor if you develop bothersome side effects. Rare, but serious side effects could include: seizures, blood pressure changes, behavioral changes, lightheadedness, tremors, mental changes, hallucinations, fainting, tingling, allergic reactions, anxiety, sleep disorders, bloody stools, tendon pain or rupture, fever, fatigue, appetite changes, dark urine, or pale stools.
More common side effects include headache, stomach upset, restlessness, rash, vomiting, anxiety, or nightmares. Talk to your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects and they become bothersome: dizziness, trembling, irritability, clumsiness, fatigue, general discomfort, phobias, abnormal skin sensations, mouth sores or infections, problems swallowing, joint pain or stiffness, aching, neck or chest pain, gout, urinary retention, vaginal changes, blood in your urine, nose bleeds, hiccups, respiratory distress, itching, rash, sensitivity to sun, flushing, fever, chills, swelling, skin color changes, vision changes, hearing changes, bad taste, secondary infections, tendon pain or swelling.
Cipro Precautions
Talk to your doctor before using Cipro if you are pregnant, nursing, taking prescription or over the counter medications, herbal remedies, diet supplements. Tell your doctor if you have a history of sexually transmitted disease, kidney problems, seizures, or hardening brain arteries. Tell your doctor if you are taking warfarin or theophylline. You should also tell your doctor if you consume large amounts of caffeine or have other medical conditions.
Missed Dose of Cipro
Take any missed doses of Cipro as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosage schedule unless otherwise directed by your doctor. If you miss more than one dose, call the doctor.
