Ceftin

Ceftin, (cefuroxime axetil) is a cephalosporin antibiotic prescribed for a variety of bacterial infections. Ceftin can treat bronchitis, infections of the ears, sinuses, tonsils, skin, or urinary tract as well as Gonorrhea. Ceftin is also available as a generic form called Cefuroxime Axetil.

Uses of Ceftin
Ceftin is given as a treatment for a variety of bacterial infections.
Ceftin Directions
Always take Ceftin with a full eight ounces of water. You may take Ceftin with food if stomach upset occurs. Take the entire dosage of Ceftin and do not discontinue use even if you begin to feel better. Do not take Ceftin with medications meant to reduce stomach acid or antacids. Talk to your doctor if you are taking antacids or any kind as these can reduce Ceftin's effectiveness.
Ceftin Precautions
Antacids and other medicines that reduce stomach acids can lower the effectiveness of Ceftin. Do not take the following medications while using Ceftin: Tums, Maalox, Rolaids, cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB, others), famotidine (Pepcid, Pepcid AC, Pepcid RPD, others), ranitidine(Zantac, others), or nizatidine (Axid, others) probenecid (Benemid); a loop diuretic (water pill) such as furosemide, bumetanide (Bumex), torsemide (Demadex), or ethacrynic acid (Edecrin); warfarin (Coumadin); or another antibiotic.
Side Effects of Ceftin
Side effects are rare, but serious. Seek emergency medical help if you experience vomiting, diarrhea, extreme nausea, allergic reaction such as hives or respiratory distress, bleeding or strange bruising, redness of the skin, itching, stool containing mucous or blood, or other side effects.
Do not discontinue medication until you have talked to your doctor if you have the following side effects: mild stomach upset, slight diarrhea, or yeast infections.
